Too Much Self-Confidence

I found this Mark Twain‘s quote at Herding Cats blog:

It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble.
It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.

Mark TwainI find myself very often arguing with people who are so sure about the things they say and they never agree with me even when I bring hard proofs in front of their eyes.

Self-confidence is good. Shy people never succeed. But sometimes, if you are too confident in your skills or knowledge and you don’t bother to check the facts, you may really get into trouble.

Mark Twain said it perfectly well.

True. Perhaps the still is to be like a master musician who forgets all the rules and is able to play with complete freedom. What I’m saying is that you need to know your stuff but not be too aware of it so you remain flexible

I think overconfidence is important in this age and everyone should strive to express it. Every day I face at least once a situation where overconfidence and manipulation of other people’s impression of yourself is far more important and constructive than facts, knowledge and reason.

wow, really it does make sense, too much self confidence often is the risk in project management, those people who have more confidence than their true ability, are the ones who often screwed up on project deadlines.
